Sunshine

This is a hard one to write.....Real hard.

I met a beautiful pre-teen girl at UMC several weeks ago named Sunshine....beautiful girl...full of love and life...Gorgeous eyes...and just a pretty soul...

She found out that I was judging American Idol locally, said she wished she could get out of the hospital to tryout...Aimee told her to sing for Judge Dee now...sing for all of us now...and she sang a Rihanna song, "Take A Bow"...it was beautiful...it was....

When I returned to UMC last Thursday...to ask Sunshine to come to the Playroom...Rebecca and I knocked on her door...she was in bed, in her room, not doing well at all......I was so shocked and it hurt to see her like that.....it was painful...her legs were cold....and her breathing labored...and all she could say was that she was tired.....tired.....

As we closed up Playroom Thursday, we all stopped by Sunshine's room...Rebecca, Tara, Aimee Stacie and I to say goodbye to her for the evening.....she was covered in blankets...and labored but she recognized us....we asked if she wanted TV on...anything...she said no...the lights were off...did she want light...door open....no.....just tired.....I rubbed her legs...touched her feet.....rubbed her arm....I knew, I knew, felt it....she was extremely ill......

I told her I would see her this Thursday...told her it was all gonna be OK...I promise.........

I got a call late this afternoon....Sunshine died Saturday.........

I volunteer there every Thursday....I work 3rd floor, the cancer floor and know they are very very sick ill children....but it is all worth it... this is my first kid to lose...... it is hard and hurts......

I will remember that little girl...that angel God has now on his side.....singing...........

Hugs.

Wrote this one when missing my step-daughter one night and reflecting on a student we lost as well:
